Energy Efficiency Program in the Tertiary Sector

In our daily lives, we use many buildings: our homes and workplaces, but we also use other buildings, such as healthcare, commercial, educational, cultural, and tourist facilities. In each of them, we consume energy to meet the various needs of heating, cooling, domestic hot water, ventilation, lighting, cooking, food preservation, office automation, etc. The sum of all these consumptions represents in Tunisia 42% of the final energy consumption (1st consumer of final energy), a percentage that tends to increase in the coming years.

ANME’s intervention in this sector covers the various phases of building use, from design to operation, using a variety of instruments such as regulatory, normative, and incentive instruments.

All of these interventions can be grouped into two types, namely:

  • Passive energy efficiency encompasses all actions aimed at increasing the intrinsic qualities of a building (orientation, thermal insulation, airtightness, etc.).
  • Active energy efficiency which includes all actions to optimize energy systems and uses (efficient technologies, regulatory instruments, behavior, etc.).

The flagship programs in this sector are the energy audit on plan and the energy audit of existing buildings associated with regulatory measures such as the thermal regulation of buildings and the energy certification of household appliances.

The ANME also carries out support activities for companies in the tertiary sector in the study and implementation of cogeneration projects and assists them in the certification process in Energy Management System – EMS – according to the ISO50001 standard as well as the labeling of buildings according to the Tunisian EcoBât Label.

For diffuse sectors such as the residential sector, the ANME ensures the development of specific mechanisms to provide energy-saving solutions to Tunisian households.
